James Thurber’s review of the book from The New York Herald arrived just as the dust jacket was going to press, and is reprinted on both flaps and the back. The biography of Julius H. Marx is about a comparatively unknown Marx Brother. He is a writer from way back, writing for the New Yorker in the 1920s. Groucho Marx also wrote for this magazine, but only put his name to the articles in 1929. They are one and the same person, who both inhabit this book.
Hardback in red cloth, pp256 + 16 plates.
Book in VG condition (three small white dots on the back, contents very clean); dust jacket in Fair condition (some loss on bottom edges in three places, otherwise variably chipped and torn; largely intact, however)
Victor Gollancz, 1959. 2nd UK impression, in month of first publication
